Industry business line: SIMONA® PVDF-NK and ECTFE-NK – Liner materials that meet the toughest requirements
When it comes to composite structures and linings, SIMONA® liner materials made of fluoroplastics are engineered to deliver a high degree of safety for the storage and transport of chemically aggressive media. The backing used in this area provides a perfect mechanical bridge between the liner material and the supporting material that needs to be protected against corrosion. The range of liner materials has now been extended to include SIMONA® PVDF-NK and SIMONA® ECTFE-NK. The new polyacrylonitrile (PAN) backing used here is particularly well-suited to composite structures that carry or transport acids thanks to its outstanding chemical resistance to the permeating chemicals hydrofluoric acid (HF) and hydrochloric acid (HCl). The liner materials SIMONA® PVDF-NK and SIMONA® ECTFE-NK are the ideal complement to the range of polyester, glass and aramid backings currently in use.
Infrastructure business line: SIMONA® PE 100 PSC RC-Line – Protective-jacket pipes with leakage monitoring
SIMONA's product range has been extended to include drinking water and wastewater piping systems with continuous leakage monitoring. They play a pivotal role when deployed in water protection zones to safeguard against contamination from defective pipes. They have been designed to comply with the high quality standards and maximum safety mechanisms against pipe damage set out in statutory provisions. The abbreviation PSC stands for PipeSystemControl. As part of this system, detectors integrated into the pipe trigger an immediate hazard notification in the event of damage to the media-carrying pipe. Thanks to this monitoring system, for example, feed pumps can be switched off directly and any further discharge of the medium can be interrupted with immediate effect. The pipe's sensor system is even capable of determining the exact location of the defect, thus facilitating a quick repair of the damaged section. In developing the PSC piping system, SIMONA AG has added a smart-tech solution to its product range for the safe discharge of wastewater through water protection zones in accordance with the requirements of ATV-DVWK-A 142.
Advertising & Building business line: SIMONA® CELPLAST – Integral skin foam sheets from SIMONA
At SIMONA's centre of expertise for PVC foam products, based in Düzce, Turkey, SIMONA PLASTECH has developed a new integral skin foam sheet marketed as SIMONA® CELPLAST. This recent innovation is likely to be added to the PVC product portfolio from the beginning of 2023. SIMONA® CELPLAST is manufactured by means of a semi-Celuka process. The Celuka process prevents cell formation on the surface of the molten material through an immediate reduction in temperature. This method produces a compact, silky-smooth and perfectly even surface ("integral skin"). The result is a foamed PVC sheet that is light in weight and strong – offering excellent surface quality and low tolerance of thickness across the entire width. Thus, SIMONA® CELPLAST is particularly suitable for design and construction applications.
Business Line Mobility: SIMORAIL - Flammgeschützte Innenauskleidungen für Passagierzüge / Recycelbarer Flugzeugsitz
The SIMORAIL product range has been developed for use in interior finish applications within the rail industry. It encompasses innovative, lightweight, low-flammability and recyclable sheets. Its target groups include designers, rail vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers and thermoformers. SIMORAIL products meet new, more stringent fire standards, such as EN 45545 or NFPA130, while also allowing for customised shapes and colours. Thanks to their outstanding material properties, they can also be deployed in other mobility sectors. In fact, the thermoformed components are equally suitable for trucks, buses and even ships. Compared to other materials such as metal or glass-fibre-reinforced thermosets, SIMORAIL sheets offer significant weight savings combined with high impact strength. Due to their ease of handling, parts made of SIMORAIL plastic help to reduce transport and shipping costs.
Group company SIMONA Boltaron, USA, has been working in close collaboration with leading aircraft interior designer Gary Doy to create an aircraft seatback made of Boltaron's 9865 TERREFORM™ material. 9865 TERREFORM™ is recyclable and contains a high percentage of recycled material. It meets the exacting standards set out in the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) with regard to flammability, heat release and smoke development. In addition, it boasts high chemical and impact resistance, while also offering a wide range of designs when it comes to surface finish. Referred to as "Loop", the seatback demonstrates how Boltaron materials can be endlessly recycled.
Aquaculture business line: Customised distribution systems for aquaculture
Group company SIMONA Stadpipe, Norway, specialises in equipping and installing land-based fish farms, covering every aspect from the design of piping systems and the development of project-specific solutions to on-site installation. At K, SIMONA will be presenting customised manifold systems for the safe transport of fish, highlighting a range of specialist solutions developed with the help of the company's piping systems. Vacuum technology is used to pull the outlets out of the main pipe, enabling the execution of particularly smooth transitions within the manifold system. The manifolds can be produced in all sizes and dimensions up to 1,200 mm in diameter and can also be supplied as Tees with reduced branches. All SIMONA Stadpipe products meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, NS-EN 12201, NS 416 and NS 9416 for use in fish farms.

SIMONA will also be presenting its sustainability strategy at K, which is based on the key pillars of sustainable products, sustainable manufacturing and processes as well as employee appreciation. For example, SIMONA will be showcasing a sustainable product line based on ecological plastics. Certification of PE pipe production at the company's Ringsheim site in accordance with ISCC ("International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) standards has provided the necessary foundations for this new portfolio. The ISCC organisation, which consists of international companies and various NGOs, has established a testing system for the certification of raw materials – in Germany, the EU and third countries – that comply with the world's most widely established sustainability regulations. Following extensive testing at the company, ISCC certification confirms that the products in question meet ISCC criteria. SIMONA initially uses so-called "bio-circular" pellets obtained from industrial waste and residues of biological origin. Customers decide to what extent these pellets are processed in their products and thus how extensive the associated CO2 savings are. The system also ensures that there are no quality compromises compared to conventional raw materials.
