ISCC PLUS certified: SIMONA presents new line of products made of ecological plastics
Company
The new SIMONA "ISCC PLUS certified Pipes & Fittings" product line is based on the principle of mass balancing, a term that will be familiar to those with a knowledge of the eco-electricity market. This product range will be presented to the public for the first time at K 2022. Operating within the global arena, the company has thus expanded its portfolio to include plastic products from proven climate-friendly sources, while also making a contribution to environmental and climate protection in respect of material quality and composition. Initially, the ISCC certified product line will be available for PE100 pipes and fittings. This is to be extended to other products in the future.
Customers benefit from CO2 savings and consistently high quality
ISCC stands for International Sustainability and Carbon Certification. Comprised of international companies and NGOs, the ISCC organisation provides certification for raw materials that comply with established sustainability regulations. As regards the three different ISCC sustainability categories, SIMONA will initially be focusing on pellets of a biocircular and circular origin, i.e. the pellets used for plastics production originate from biological waste, for example. As they are introduced prior to polymerisation, the properties of ISCC PLUS certified SIMONA products are fully preserved compared to purely fossil-based pellets. The high levels of quality for which SIMONA is renowned when it comes to product functionality and performance are maintained.
The company, which is headquartered in Kirn, Germany, is fully committed to the aspect of diversity. The industry as a whole is in a state of flux with regard to sustainability. Indeed, it has seen the emergence of many innovative and alternative approaches to plastics production – concepts that are also being reviewed and trialled by SIMONA. Correspondingly, the new product line is also driven by the aspects of flexibility and versatility: ISCC PLUS certified pipes and fittings are available with various proportions of ecological pellets – from 20 to 100 per cent, depending on customer requirements.
Successful ISCC certification – which is to be extended to other plants and product lines in the future – is seen within the company as merely one building block when it comes to achieving a key corporate goal: the reduction of SIMONA's own ecological footprint and that of its products. In addition, SIMONA has now initiated a wide range of measures with different trajectories, all of which are centred around the three pillars of Products, Processes and People.
Digitalisation calls for plastics that can be monitored
While the new product line of ISCC PLUS certified pipes and fittings can be placed within the "circular economy and climate protection" category chosen as one of the highlights of K 2022, the company has also come up with innovations within the area of digitalisation – at least indirectly: after all, the digital monitoring of plastics, e.g. for various forms of piping, requires products with adequate monitoring capabilities. SIMONA has further extended its product portfolio in this regard. In this context, one of the solutions in this field is the PE 100 PSC RC-Line range of protective-jacket pipes, for example, which opens up the possibility of continuous leakage monitoring by means of metal detectors fitted to the plastic. Thus, the protection and safety of soil considered to be of critical importance, e.g. in drinking water protection zones, has reached a new dimension.
Part of Life. Part of the Solution.
Alongside its specific contributions to the main themes of K 2022, SIMONA will be showcasing its extensive range of products and services in various fields of application – embracing the trade fair motto "Part of Life. Part of the Solution." Boasting a number of innovations, the company will demonstrate that smart thermoplastic solutions are sustainable and represent the best possible option in many areas of application in everyday life.
