SIMONA expands silo capacity at Kirn site

Kirn, 8 February 2023. As part of ongoing investment efforts directed at its site in Kirn, SIMONA has expanded the company's local storage capacity for raw materials by introducing two additional silos. The expansion is to be seen in the context of a three-year investment package totalling €15 million. In an impressive operation that included a heavy-duty crane, the two silos were installed on the factory premises with great precision on 8 February.

Acknowledged as a global player, SIMONA AG has further strengthened its operational capabilities at its headquarters in Kirn. Against the backdrop of challenging economic conditions, the company remains thoroughly committed to pursuing its investment programme to safeguard the long-term competitiveness of its site in Kirn.

"Our latest expansion is to be seen in the context of efforts aimed at improving the availability of raw materials. This provides the basis for a more flexible approach to production, while also raising efficiency levels," explains plant manager Dr. Jürgen van Marwick. "The centrally located silos are connected to the different production units, thus eliminating the need for in-plant transportation."

For SIMONA, the conservation of resources forms an integral part of efforts aimed at future-proofing its business. "The new silos are sustainable in more ways than one," says Matthias Schönberg, CEO of SIMONA AG. "The workflow for employees will be simpler and safer. At the same time, we will be able to save substantial amounts of packaging material, as fewer big bags and wooden pallets are needed.".

With a height of around 25 metres and a diameter of 3,500 mm, the silos will expand the overall storage capacity of the SIMONA Group's largest plant worldwide. In a dazzling display of skill, a crane operator lifted the silos, whose empty weight is around 7 tonnes, over a building measuring 30 metres in height to install them on the factory premises.
