We do not expect to see a direct impact on our delivery capabilities in the first quarter of the year. However, if we do experience shortages of specific products, we will inform you immediately.
It should be noted that there may be delays in the area of logistics in general. Several air freight companies, for instance, have suspended their flights to China and Hong Kong. As regards sea freight, most of the ports in China continue to operate. However, there may be delays to freight handling. We expect to see considerable shortages with regard to the availability of sea freight containers during the second quarter, which is likely to result in a significant increase in freight costs. In the case of overseas shipments, we will inform you accordingly about delivery times and the availability of containers. However, please bear with us if the processing of enquiries is delayed or delivery times are extended for the reasons mentioned above.
Current situation at SIMONA Asia
Our production plant in Jiangmen is currently undergoing a Safety Situation Auditing by the health authority responsible for such matters and will resume production on 13 February 2020. Safety Situation Auditing is mandatory for all operators in China.
Due to our inventory management in Jiangmen, we have sufficient stocks of products and raw materials to meet enquiries and commence production for orders. However, we hope you understand that we cannot yet guarantee that the logistics chain will operate without disruptions. In particular, please note that Chinese domestic transport is considerably restricted. Due to the lack of availability of drivers and containers, we expect substantial cost increases of 10 to 50 per cent with regard to freight costs. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this. Exports to overseas destinations will take place as usual.
Please coordinate such activities directly with the Customer Service teams at our offices in Jiangmen, Shanghai and Hong Kong. SIMONA Hong Kong can be reached between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (local time). Our Shanghai office resumed work this week.
Naturally, we have taken all measures to ensure that our employees in China have the best possible protection against infection. As of today, we have not recorded any coronavirus infections among our employees.
